Milk is the Best Medicine (Teaser)

The shrill sound of a phone ringing filled the living room. A tall woman dressed in a tank top and shorts poked her head out of the kitchen to confirm the sound. Wiping her hands on the kitchen napkin, she stepped out of the kitchen and headed to the coffee table where her phone was.

As she walked, her hips swayed and her perky butt jiggled. Two dark stains began to form around her tank top and she made a mental note to get the breast pumps later.

Glancing at the Caller ID, she smiled before accepting the call.

“Hey, Annie, what’s up?” She asked, her tone chirpy.

Annie was her longtime friend from high school. They both ended up attending the same college and Annie settled down and started a family after college but Brooke wasn’t quite ready yet.

Annie sighed, “Hey, sorry for calling so early.”

Brooke noted the fatigue in her tone and she cocked her head in wonder, “Still busy with work?”

Annie responded, “Yeah, yeah, I’ve barely been in my home all through the week. I’ve been so busy and so has John. He’s been out of town for a week now.”

John was her husband. He worked in a building company located on the outskirts of town and he was required to be onsite for days on end.

“So sorry about that, dear,” Brooke said in a soft tone.

Feeling herself grow even heavier around her chest, her lips set in a thin like as she glanced down and saw that the dark stains had grown larger. Breast milk seeped through the tank top and trickled all the way down to her abdomen.

She snapped back to attention when she realized she had missed the first half of her friend’s words.

“I’m sorry, could you repeat that?” She asked politely.

Annie let out a sigh, “I feel really embarrassed asking you this but I really need this favor, Brooke, please.”

Brooke stopped her, “Hey, whatever you need help with, you can just tell me, there’s no need to be so worried.”

Annie was silent for a moment before she spoke up again, “I asked if you could help me check on Max. He hasn’t been able to go to school in the past two days. When I left home this morning, he was severely burning up. I mean I gave him his meds but it’s time to take the next dosage and I’m a little worried he wouldn’t be able to.”

Annie kept rambling on while Brooke was lost in thought as she tried to recall an image of her friend’s son.

Max had always been a shy child, hiding behind his mom whenever he had to greet her. She could remember on numerous occasions when she held him on her lap and he sat stiffly and awkwardly until everyone around burst out in laughter.

“Brooke? You listening?” Annie called out, snapping her out of her reverie.

“Uh, yeah, yeah, you were listing a bunch of instructions,” Brooke said quickly, searching her memory to remember what exactly her friend had just said.

“Yeah, I said I left his medicine in the second drawer by his bed. Please use only warm water with him except when wiping him down. You don’t need to prepare anything, I already left some food in the fridge so you can just heat that up.”

As Annie kept talking, Brooke set her phone on speaker and placed it down. Her hands reached for the hem of her tank top and she lifted it up before completely shrugging it off of her. The clothing was completely soaked and she held it with two fingers, assessing the stains.

Her breasts were coated with a white sheen and it only seemed to glow more under the ray of sunlight that was seeping in through the thin curtains. She squeezed one swollen breast bud and milk gushed out of the nipple.

“Ngh!” She cried, drawing the attention of her friend.

“Brooke? Brooke, what’s wrong?” Annie called, moving the phone from one hand to the other.

A flurry of workers rushed past her but she pressed the phone closer to her ear, hoping she could wrap things up and get to her desk.

“Uhm, nothing, nothing, just saw a bug,” Brooke said, finally regaining herself.

“Oh, alright. Do you need me to repeat the instructions? I could do that or do you want me to text them to you?”

Brooke waved a hand dismissively, “It’s fine, Annie, loosen up a bit. Feed him, get him his meds and cool him down with a towel. I got it all right?”

Annie bit her bottom lip. Annie was always a little wary about Brooke. She was the carefree type and never seemed to think much before acting. Back in high school, many people had tagged her as that girl with big breasts and no brain but she saw past that and got to know that Brooke was actually a very nice person.

Annie swallowed, “Uhm yeah, that’s it. Will you be able to drive down there now, please? He needs to take his meds in about ten minutes.”

Brooke was now in her bathroom, she balled her tank top up between her palms and chucked it in the laundry basket, “Okay. I just need to take a shower and I’ll head there immediately.”

Annie hesitated before nodding. After realizing that her friend couldn’t see her, she responded, “Olay, please be quick.”

After saying a few more words, she hung up. Annie stared at her screen for a full minute before a coworker walked up to her and tapped her shoulder, “Boss needs you in his office.”

Annie nodded and dropped her phone before hurrying back to work.

On the other side, Brooke finished with her shower and threw on a fitting pair of leggings before pairing it with a plain low cut blouse. She took a swipe of her lip gloss on her lips and nodded at her reflection before grabbing her keys and heading out.

As she sat in her car, she noticed her breasts had begun to grow sore and heavy again.

“Huh, but I just pumped them,” she muttered.

Brooke had gotten medication prescribed to her by her doctor. For the past few weeks, she had struggled with painful stomach cramps and vomiting and it was only when she used the medication that she felt relieved.

Overtime, she noticed her breasts grew even larger and she began producing milk even when she had never had a child before. She told her Doctor about it and he said it was a side effect of the medication. Recalling the meeting with the Doctor, Brooke sighed. She didn’t mind the discomfort of lactating compared to the painful stomach cramps.

Realizing that she had arrived at Annie’s house, she turned off the engine and stepped out of the car. Walking up to the front door, she let herself in and walked upstairs.
